FASS recipients

The Academy recently announced the recipients of their 2017 grants and awards. Three FASS colleagues were among those honoured with fellowships and awards:

  • Dr Alix Beeston (USSC) - Humanities Travelling Fellowship, and Publication Subsidy Scheme
  • Dr Lynne Swarts (SLC) - Publication Subsidy Scheme
  • Dr Donna West Brett (SLAM) - Ernst and Rosemarie Keller Award

First Year Coordinators Meeting – 2 June meeting

Teaching and Learning are holding a  First Year Coordinators Meeting – Friday, 2 June –  12.00 -2.30pm, Woolley Common Room. Please join us at 12.00 to share lunch before the session starts at 12.30pm. 

Please see the program. You will see we have allowed for some time at the end of the program,  so key issues can be discussed and shared. Please email your suggestions to Tanya Doulaveras prior to the meeting (by Monday, 29 May) so we can prioritise and plan accordingly. Otherwise, this time will be spent on a Q&A expanding on material presented by the invited speakers.

Getting Group work Assessments right! Are video assessments the answer?

Group assessments can be fun engaging and effectively prepare students for working in teams after they graduate. This presentation will illustrate how early preparation can minimise issues and concerns that can often interfere with the successful completion of group work, and how students in a fully online unit of study are using technologies to communicate effectively.

Educational video doesn’t have to be only about presenting straight to camera. Video has some unique qualities that can help enable a wide range of learning outcomes. In this session we will look at different types of pedagogic roles for video, illustrated with many short video clips used in various departments of this Faculty and the rest of the university.
