The University of Sydney Nano Institute

General teaching spaces

The SNH offers new state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities. The teaching and learning aims are focused on leading the development of exciting, new teaching and research spaces within the University and providing new teaching and learning opportunities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Messel Lecture Theatre 4002 (300 capacity) has special provisions for lecture demonstrations
  • Learning Studio 4003 (90) is equipped for computer-based learning, well-suited to teaching methods employing computer simulations and for small-scale experiments such as electronics.
  • Seminar Rooms 3001 (40) & 4001 (60) for tutorials with provisions for student interaction with demonstrations.
  • Case Study Lecture Theatre 3003 (40) equipped for video conferencing and lecturing students at remote locations.
  • Senior (3rd year) Laboratory providing a transition between the relatively structured environments in first and second year experimental physics and the research-led environment of Honours and postgraduate years.

A Student Commons space is located adjacent to the Senior Lab, and will provide senior students with a sense of place and a ‘home’ for their independent study program.

All teaching facilities are accessed from a large atrium that provides ample space to accommodate the large numbers of students passing through.

Bookings

All Bookings for SNH GTS are made via the university's timetabling unit:

timetable.usyd.edu.au

Preference is given to bookings for units of study, however if available these spaces can also be used for conferences, meetings and seminars etc.
