I am the Associate Director, Integrated Photonics Sensing Group at The University of Sydney. I received a PhD in physics from the University of Sydney, secured through a prestigious USydIS scholarship. I received a double MSc degree in Photonics with Distinction level, earned through Erasmus Mundus scholarships at distinguished institutions like St Andrews and Heriot-Watt in Scotland, and Gent and VUB Universities in Belgium. My foundation was set with a BSc. (Physics) (Hons) from Colombia's Universidad del Valle. My scientific mission is the design and nanofabrication of integrated optical circuits tailored for microwave photonics, optomechanics, and sensing within our dynamic group. Moreover, I lead our initiatives in the domains of semiconductor optoelectronics and heterogeneous integration. A notable recognition in my career came from the 2020 Defence Science and Technology Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Safeguarding Australia. My role as Vice-Chair for the Optica Integrated Photonics Technical Group, along with my standing as an OPTICA senior member, a 2016 inaugural class ambassador, and a traveling lecturer, showcases my commitment to leading and inspiring on a global scale. I co-founded the very first OPTICA (Formerly OSA) local section in Australia, where I served as president, igniting a wave of innovation and collaboration. As the OPTICA/SPIE student chapter advisor at the University of Sydney, I guide and inspire the next generation of student’s leaders.
