What is ARCGIS?

ArcGIS is a family of client software, server software, and online geographic information system services (GIS) developed and maintained by Esri. It is used to:

  • create and use maps,
  • compile geographic data,
  • analyse mapped information,
  • share and discover geographic information,
  • use maps and geographic information in a range of applications, and
  • manage geographic information in a database.

ESRI has retired ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap), replacing it with the ArcGIS Online / Pro platform. Our current Desktop licenses will expire on the 14th June 2025. 

ESRI recommends that customers start migrating their projects and workflows from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro. The contents created in ArcMap can be easily accessed from ArcGIS Pro. Furthermore, there are many resources available to help our users migrate from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro including Esri Academy, Learn ArcGIS lessons, blogs, videos and books. Here is a list of examples:

We frequently create new forms on the Service Portal, allowing you to complete various tasks and submit requests anytime without having to contact the Shared Service Centre. These submissions can also be tracked online via the Service Portal.

Connect to eduroam wi-fi (iPhone and iPad)

Staff and students at the University of Sydney can connect their iPhone and iPad to campus wi-fi via the eduroam network. Use the eduroam installer app for quick setup.
