How to request a financial account code change for a project in SydneyFMS

SydneyFMS (Facility Management System) is a new enterprise-wide platform for booking and managing research facilities, equipment and services.

Researchers will use SydneyFMS to book instruments, digital services and staff engagements at the University's Core Research Facilities and Laboratory Animal Services, as well as research facilities operated by Technical Support Services (TSS), faculties and multi-disciplinary initiatives.

Facilities will transition to SydneyFMS in stages during 2025. Ultimately, SydneyFMS will provide researchers with a single point of visibility and access to facilities across approximately 20 different areas of the University.

Non-Traditional Research Output (NTRO) Portfolios

Non-Traditional Research Outputs (NTROs) can be reported together in a Portfolio for the Sydney Research Collection and periodic ERA submission. Only NTROs can be included in a portfolio; traditional research outputs and other types of publications are excluded. NTROs reported together in a portfolio must come from the same underlying research endeavour and contain coherent research content.

Human ethics application process

This article provides an overview of the human ethics application process at the University of Sydney. It is a step-by-step guide on how to prepare and complete an application, and what to expect after submission.

Using IRMA - creating a custom GUI

This Knowledge Base article has been created as a step by step guide in creating a custom GUI search in IRMA. The example selects data fields related to NTROs to display exhibition related data and demonstrates how custom GUIs can be used to optimise certain tasks specific to NTROs and sub-categories and types of works.

What are the differences between REDCap and Qualtrics?

Both REDCap and Qualtrics are available to researchers to use to deliver surveys to research participants. However, these two platforms have different strengths and weaknesses. Here is a comparison that may help you decide which platform better suits your needs.

Troubleshooting Display of IRMA Publications on AP&D

In order to help research staff prepare their annual Academic Performance and Development (AP&D), there is a feed from IRMA to AP&D of selected research outputs. The filtering of research outputs for display on AP&D is not the same as for academic profiles online. There are a number of checks that can be done in order to understand why publications may not be displaying in the AP&D feed.

Ethical considerations for using generative AI in human research

Generative AI (Gen AI) tools can be used in research to help create, analyse, and present information, however, as a researcher, you have a responsibility to conduct your research responsibly and with integrity. You are responsible for the appropriate management of research data and ensuring the integrity of your findings. This means that you need to carefully evaluate Gen AI tools before deciding whether or not to use them in your research. This is especially important in human research where the sensitivity of data can vary significantly.

This article outlines some ethical considerations that you should consider before deciding whether or not to use Gen AI in your research:

  • Ethical Responsibility
  • Human Research Ethics Applications
  • Implications for Participant Data
  • Protecting Privacy

What is the security classification of my research data?

Researchers are often entrusted with sensitive information which if managed incorrectly could have serious implications for the researcher, their research subjects, and/or the University.

Project Budget Tool: Installation and Uninstallation Guide (PC & Mac)

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to install and access the Project Budgeting Tool for both Windows and Mac users. If you are a Windows user, installing via local machine is recommended, but you may use either method. For Mac users, please refer solely to the “Installation via Citrix” section. If you are looking to uninstall the Project Budgeting Tool (PBT), then please skip to the section titled “Local Machine Uninstallation”.

Using IRMA - Searching for Portfolios (NTROs)

This Knowledge Base article has been created to provide a step by step guide to search for NTRO Portfolios and individual outputs that are linked to portfolios, in the Publications Desktop in IRMA. This task also involves setting up a custom GUI. Please see the Knowledge Base article on creating a custom GUI.

Research Funding Approval (RFA) - Faculty and school approver guide

This article provides a detailed guide for faculty and school approvers helping researchers to obtain institutional approval to apply for and commence research activities and contracts for services. It is intended to give faculty and school research approval delegates a high-level overview of their role in the online, automated workflow for the Research Funding Approval (RFA) service.

What is the Research Funding Approval service?

The Research Funding Approval (RFA) is a service which allows researchers to obtain the institutional approval required for the submission of grant applications, as well as the establishment of newly awarded grants, wherever the University of Sydney is a participant. It is a record of contributions that faculties, schools, and other local areas have agreed to make toward a proposed research activity.

The Research Funding Approval is comprised of a number of webforms, some of which are designed to be connected in a seamless workflow. They include:

  • Pre-Award Approval Form which is required to accompany the submission of any competitive grant application
  • Acceptance Form which should be completed at the time when an application is awarded by the funder
  • Post Award Approval Form which should be completed when an awarded research project is about to commence

The Research Funding Approval also includes two clearance webforms which can be submitted independently for commissioned research projects and professional service contracts, respectively.
