When is annual leave loading paid?

An annual leave loading payment is made to all eligible staff (excluding casual staff) in December each year. The annual leave loading payment is also made on the date of any final termination payment. 

 

Who should I contact if I have a payroll question?

If you have a question that is related to general questions about pay, timesheets, taxation, payslips, leave entitlements and superannuation, send your enquiry through to hr.servicecentre@sydney.edu.au. If the Shared Service Centre is unable to address your enquiry, it will be escalated to the Payroll team to resolve.

How to report a hazard in the workplace

If you identify a hazard and it is within your control to rectify the problem, do so straight away and then report this to your manager or supervisor. If the situation is outside of your control to manage and action is required to ensure safety, follow the below steps.

How to view Units of Work Distribution Report ​

This help article will provide instruction to run the Units of Work Distribution Report, in OTA.

This report displays the number of allocated units to teaching/non-teaching activity types, per unit of study. It can assist to highlight instances of excessive or insufficient allocation to certain teaching/non-teaching activity types, E.g. Not enough marking hours.

Report considerations:

  • Information is displayed according to the access model, i.e. You will only see information based on your level of access.
  • Allocated units can be expressed as hours or as a % of total units allocated to the unit of study.

How do I express interest in a classroom or virtual classroom offering?

Use this process when there is not a current classroom or virtual classroom offering to suit your requirements. Expressing interest will let the facilitator/creator of the course know that you would like an alternate session time/day.
 
Learning admins can report on Expressions of Interest. You will receive a notification should an offering be scheduled which meets your requirements, inviting you to register. A classroom or virtual classroom offering is usually hosted by a facilitator and generally has a start and end date and time.

How do I request a substitution for the Australia Day Public Holiday (26 January)?

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS AND CONCESSIONAL DAYS

Clause 227 - To support staff who do not wish to observe the Australia Day Public Holiday on 26 January, the University and a staff member may agree to substitute the Australia Day public holiday for the working day prior to or following that public holiday.

Can I request a position description before a scheduled interview?

The position description is usually provided to a candidate who has been shortlisted for a role before their interview. If the position description has not been provided to you, please email the recruiter who you have been liaising with about the role, and this will be provided to you via email.

Apply for leave without pay (for professional development purposes) in Workday

You may apply for leave without pay for professional development reasons if you wish to utilise career development opportunities that require time away from work. 

Before applying, have a discussion with your manager as early as possible about your plan to take leave without pay, particularly for longer term periods of leave.

 

 

How do I extend my staff member's probation period?

Fixed term and continuing staff may be employed on a probationary basis. This means that a probation period is put in place when the staff member first commences employment at the University, to ensure that they understand the requirements of the role and have the opportunity to show that they can meet these, with any support and development needed.

Uploading or deleting staff documents

While staff members can update personal information such as residential address details, only HR Administration staff can upload or delete documents to or from a staff file. Staff members cannot elect to have a file deleted.

In the case of administrative errors, the HR Administration team can make a request to the University’s records management team to delete the incorrect file and/or upload the correct file.

How do I access Workday Learning?

Use this process to navigate to the learning module in Workday. Within this module you can browse and enroll in courses, drop enrollments, access learning history and create or edit learning paths.

What is the employee Conversion process?

Under the University of Sydney Enterprise Agreement, casual or fixed-term staff may be eligible to apply for conversion to a different type of employment contract under certain circumstances.
