Teaching through tension

This workshop aims to equip university educators with practical tools and strategies to teach during times of heightened community and global conflict. Through case studies and hands-on practice, participants learn how to navigate sensitive and polarised classroom discussions with clarity and confidence.

Alan Turing's legacy: computers, AI and some very queer mathematics

Alan Turing was a mathematician who left a remarkable legacy which continues to influence research in computing, codebreaking, artificial intelligence and mathematical logic. Professor Benjamin Burton will explore Turing’s life and discuss how his work continues to influence mathematics and computing today.

Science at the museum

This year’s theme of National Science Week is Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all. Over the weekend, you’ll build your own Caesar cipher, learn cryptography skills to decrypt secret messages, get creative with our family friendly maths craft activities and find out how the Enigma machine encrypts coded messages.

Updates and services

The NTEU will be taking industrial action on 10 August

There will be a stop work meeting from 12–2pm. The University is continuing to engage with the NTEU at the Enterprise Agreement bargaining table, and the University's position will not change in response to industrial action. Nevertheless, the University supports the right of staff to take protected industrial action.
