Criteria for Traditional Publication Types: E1 – Conference Proceedings
The Sydney Research Collection (SRC) comprises information on all research published by staff, students, and honorary associates.
For the purposes of this collection the University will apply the ERA definition of Research.
Research is defined as the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings.
All research publications that meet the eligibility criteria are collected in IRMA.
The 4 main publication types for traditional research outputs are:
- Books – Authored Research (A1)
- Book Chapters – Commercial Publisher (B1)
- Journal Articles – Refereed, Scholarly Journal (C1)
- Conference Proceedings – Full Paper Refereed (E1)
Open 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday

Obligations for employer sponsored visa holders and their supervisors
It’s important to be aware that whether you are a temporary visa holder sponsored by the University (subclass 457, 482, 407 visas), or a supervisor of someone on a work visa, you have certain obligations. These are essential for compliance with the Visa and Work Rights Policy and legal immigration requirements.
For further information, refer to the Visa and Work Rights Policy and further advice on work rights and visas.
MFA OKTA - I don't have access to my MFA-enabled device
If you have lost your device with the Okta Verify app, or the app has been removed, you can restore your multi-factor authentication (MFA) by contacting the Shared Service Centre via another phone/land line.
If you do not have a replacement phone and urgently need access to your university accounts and systems, the Shared Service Centre (SSC) can arrange a 1 day or 7 day exemption for you until you have access to your own mobile device. The 1 day exemption expires at 3am daily.
Helpful generative AI links for researchers
Generative AI (Gen AI) tools can be valuable assets in research, offering innovative ways to generate, analyse, and visualise information. While Gen AI tools can be useful for many different research purposes, researchers need to carefully consider University policies and manage potential risks of using Gen AI. The following list of resources may help researchers to fulfil their obligations in managing research data appropriately as you explore the use of Gen AI in your research.

FAQ: Disabling external email auto-forwarding
As part of the University’s Cyber Security program and to reduce the risk of security and privacy breaches, ICT will commence progressively disabling automatic forwarding from University email accounts to external email platforms from Tuesday 6 October.
This change is part of a broader program of work underway to reduce the University's exposure to cyber security and privacy breaches in alignment with the University's Cyber Security Policy 2019 (pdf, 221KB) and the Acceptable Use of ICT Resources Policy 2019 (pdf, 246KB).
AWS Re-Architecture Project Updates
AWS Re-Architecture Changes and Impacts on Applications
To better protect the University from cyber threats we are undertaking critical work that will result in some disruption to applications.
Please see the table below for details of each change.
There are two streams of work.
1. AWS 2.0: restructuring the AWS cloud network to a hub and spoke model to improve maintainability and threat management.
2. WAF: Implementing a Web Application Firewall that will scan traffic at an application level and help to identify and manage malicious traffic.
Storage of scheduled drugs
All drugs must be stored consistently with the manufacturer’s instructions, including instructions about temperature control and expiry dates.
Researchers in possession of high risk drugs, Schedule 4D, Schedule 8 or Schedule 9 drugs (including dilutions), must keep the drugs stored:
- In a safe or other receptacle securely attached to part of the premises;
- Kept securely locked when not in immediate use;
- Only used to store drugs and no other goods, except for related documents; and
- Within a secure laboratory or animal facility.
Only authorised users listed on the NSW Authority to Possess or Supply Schedule 8 or Schedule 9 substances are permitted to have access to the storage for the drugs listed on the Authority.
Access to S4D drugs must only be given to authorised team members.
A drug register should be kept at the storage location of high risk drugs.
For any queries in relation to scheduled drug processes and procedures, please contact: scheduled.drugs@sydney.edu.au
Office Hours - 9.00am - 4.30pm. All HECS (Commonwealth Assisted) enquiries should be directed to the HECS Office.

Work Allocation and Timesheet Guidelines - Continuing and Fixed Term professional staff
For continuing and fixed term professional staff, including shift workers.
To increase awareness of the Enterprise Agreement (EA) requirements around engaging and paying continuing and fixed term professional staff, the following business rules have been summarised for managers and work allocation administrators (including staff allocating work to continuing and fixed term professional employees, and approving timesheets); and for continuing and fixed term professional staff (including shift workers). Please review and put these rules into practice as soon as possible.
