As part of our postgraduate education strategy, in 2022 the University partnered with 2U Inc. (2U) to co-design and co-deliver four fully online postgraduate degrees.  

The University is committed to improving the quality of our postgraduate offerings. We have identified that time-poor mature age students, who are often working fulltime and balancing family responsibilities, prefer online attendance for postgraduate study.

The partnership with 2U, which offers degrees in areas of high market demand, provides a timely way to address that need along with a high-quality offering that meets world's best practice.

The first three degrees, Master of Data Science (Online), Master of Project and Program Management (Online) and Master of Cybersecurity (Online) launched in 2023. The final degree, Master of Data Analytics (Online), welcomed its first students in February 2024.

The University is the first Australian university to partner with 2U on full degree programs. 2U also partners with multiple overseas institutions on full degree programs including UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Yale University, Tufts University, University of London and London School of Economics. Several Australian Universities, including UNSW, Monash and the University of Adelaide, also run full degree programs in partnership with other online providers.

How the partnership will work

The University retains full academic control of all courses, determining the curriculum content and admissions standards, with all unit development and teaching undertaken by our academic staff. 2U provides support in the areas of the technology platform, educational design and unit development, student and faculty support, and marketing and recruitment services.

Our academics work with 2U to develop the online postgraduate degree programs, using 2U’s digital infrastructure that combines a comprehensive set of technology, data and people-based services to deliver world-class online education and learning outcomes for students.

Through 2U’s Career Engagement Network, students are also able to access career and job-relevant resources, tools, and recruiting opportunities.
