Monitoring and reporting of recommendations and professional accreditation

This page summarises the approach and processes to monitor and report on:

  • the implementation of course review recommendations;  and
  • professional accreditation status, milestones and conditions.

Once approved by the Academic Quality Committee, course review recommendations and due dates are recorded in the central dashboard by the Curriculum and Policy team, Division of the Academic Registrar.

Faculties are expected to implement recommendations within the proposed timeframes and provide regular updates on their progress doing so by updating in the dashboard the status (see categories below) and progress narrative for each recommendation. The progress narrative should be de-identified and summarise the actions taken, outline how the recommendation has been addressed and explain delays where applicable.

It is critical that updates are accurate, appropriate, and submitted on a regular basis.

Recommendation status categories:

Status

Description

Due to commence

the recommendation is planned and associated work due to commence.

In progress

the recommendation is in progress or partially implemented.

Paused

the recommendation has been paused but may be resumed within a 12-month period.

For recommendations that have been marked as ‘Paused’ for over 12 months, faculties are expected to provide their plan to progress or resolve them in their narrative update.

Closed

there is an impediment to implementation, recommendation is no longer strategically or financially viable for faculties, and/or requires advice from the AQC.

Recommendations that the faculty deems unachievable or strategically undesirable must be signed off by the Dean (email signoff is sufficient). Once signed off, these recommendations are marked as ‘Closed’ and no longer actively monitored.

Completed

the recommendation has been implemented.

The Curriculum and Policy Team, Division of the Academic Registrar compiles an annual report for the Academic Board and Senate based on the updates provided by faculties throughout the year. This report summarises the implementation progress across faculties and helps inform institutional oversight and decision-making. It also provides the Academic Board and Senate with the opportunity to monitor and assess faculties’ progress, and to raise any issues or concerns to be relayed back to faculties.

Refer to the Course Review and Professional Accreditation Key Dates for reporting deadlines.

Recent sector discussions and TEQSA’s consultation on guidance notes highlight the importance of transparency and rigorous management of professional accreditation. Under the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021 and the Learning and Teaching Policy 2024, the University must make accurate representations to students in relation to professional accreditation and maintain robust processes for managing and monitoring professional accreditation status.

To further enhance the University’s monitoring and reporting oversight of professional accreditation as set out in the Learning and Teaching Policy 2024, the process to report on professional accreditation institutionally has been included in the new Academic Quality Assurance Procedures 2026.

Process to monitor and report on professional accreditation

  • Dean submits the professional accreditation outcome and report upon receipt to the AQC, using a dedicated coversheet for feedback and endorsement;
  • If deemed necessary, AQC will escalate to the University Executive risks to either receiving or maintaining professional accreditation for courses;
  • Curriculum and Policy team (Division of the Academic Registrar) collates accreditation information provided and saves reports in a central register, monitoring accreditation status and milestones;
  • Faculties address accreditation actions and conditions, documenting progress and completions and submitting updated outcomes to the Curriculum and Policy team.
  • Twice a year, Curriculum and Policy team prepares a report for AQC and UE on professional accreditation, documenting status and progress towards meeting milestones and any conditions.
